| Abstract: |
A novel embedded wavelet coding algorithm for color imageand video compression is proposed. A color image isfirst transformed into luminance/chrominance (YUV) colorspace before computing the discrete wavelet transform. Eachof the three color components is then transformed separatelyinto a wavelet pyramid. The luminance component is compressedwith context-modeled wavelet difference reduction(CM-WDR). The chrominance components are compressedwith the assistance of contextual information formed duringthe coding of the luminance component. Our experimentalresults show that the proposed algorithm performs much better than two wavelet-based benchmark schemes, namely,CEZW and JPEG-2000. |
